Welcome to the Sandra Day O'Connor OCR/SWEEP Room. My name is Mrs. Fleet, and I am the OCR/SWEEP Instructor. I have been employed with Deer Valley Unified School District #97 for 9 years, 5 of which I have been at Sandra Day O'Connor High School, in the OCR/SWEEP Room.
The letters OCR stand for: ON CAMPUS REASSIGNMENT. This is the same as being suspended, however, the student still comes to school. This is a disciplinary room. When a student has an infraction such as behavior issues, they just might be placed in this room. When a student is placed in the OCR Room, he/she will be in this room for the entire school day. Sometimes up to 5 days. Each one of the students' teachers are notified that he/she will be spending time in the OCR Room, and they are asked to get all of their assignments for each day that the student will be placed in OCR, delivered to the OCR Room. As the students finish their work, I collect it from them, and see to it that the teachers get those assignments so that the students will get credit for those assignments. Teachers can call me, or send me an e-mail, if they need the student to be in class, but I WILL NOT SEND A STUDENT TO CLASS UNLESS I HEAR FROM THE TEACHER.
While a student is in OCR, he/she MUST bring a lunch from home, as our policy states that the students will not be allowed any outside foods, including food from our cafeteria. It is a disciplinary room, and we treat it as such. If a student asks a friend to bring food into them, they will get a discipline referral, and further consequences will be issued, the food will be thrown away, and their friend will also get a referral, and consequences. So therefore, it is really important that the student remembers to bring a lunch, because they will have to go the day without eating if they don't.
If a student is a DROP IN STUDENT (which means that student was not assigned to the OCR Room that day, and got in trouble on that day),THEN and ONLY THEN, is when I will get a lunch from the cafeteria for a student.
OCR Students will get two (2) bathroom breaks during the school day. They will be escorted on each bathroom break by myself or a security monitor. If a student should have an emergency, then I will write a pass for that student, and that student will have to go to the nurses office.
SWEEP is where students report when they are late arriving to school in the mornings, or if they are late getting to a class during the course of the school day. If a student is sent to SWEEP, he/she will give me their School ID, so that I can log their name, ID number, and then I will ask the student who their teacher is for that class hour. If a student does not have his/her ID, then they will have to take a piece of paper from a basket, and write their First Name, Last Name, ID Number, Grade Level, and the teacher they have that hour, then had that to me. I will do all the logging in of the student information, NEVER will the student do it. I do it like this, so that if a student wants to say they came to SWEEP, but really didn't, I can verify it. During 1st hour ONLY, if a student has less that 5 sweeps, I will send them back to class. Once that student reaches his/her 5th sweep, they will stay in sweep for the entire class hour. Hours 2-7, if a student is in sweep, they will automatically stay in sweep for the class hour, UNLESS a teacher calls and request them to class. In that case, the student will still receive the SWEEP(and consequences if they have reached that point), but then go to class.
SWEEPS are counted, and students DO receive consequences for them. Below, I have listed how the consequences work:
4th SWEEP - Parent will be notified by mail, e-mail, or a phone call
5th & 6th SWEEP - 1 After School Detention will be assigned for each SWEEP (1 for the 5th, and 1 for the 6th)
7th - 9th SWEEP - 1 day of OCR will be assigned
10th and More - 1 day of Off Campus Suspension will be assigned
I hope that this page will help you have a better understanding of how OCR/SWEEP works.
Your behavior each day, is very important!! You just might become labeled otherwise!!!!!
